After breakfast and a bit of packing, Dale and I took one final stroll around old town Vienna.
We started out with two goals in mind. One to exchange more US cash for Euros and second to buy more chocolate. We had almost finished what we were traveling with and wanted to get some more to tide us over until Brugge.
On our walk we passed this candy store. It was not open yet, but the window displays were fun.
I did get a lot of glare and reflections, but you get the idea
We walked a street I had not been on yet. This church’s painting on front caught my eye
Wandering down the pedestrian shopping way looking for an exchange. The first one we found was such a bad exchange rate, we passed it by. The next on was reasonable, so we changed some cash.
We passed this water well. It was called Donnerbrunnen and is from 1737. It is in the middle of this pedestrian shopping way
We wandered down the street and made a purchase of three candy bars at the Lindt chocolate shop.
This shop I saw and just snapped this picture. It was across the street from where we picked up some of our favorite European cheese.
The buildings are really decorated
Even a bunch of the tables of this restaurant are in the spirit
We ended up back at the Christmas market by St Stephan Cathedral
Dale pointed out to me that the roof tiles on the Cathedral created a picture.
We found a couple of stall that had made in Vienna goods. The lady manning this shop and her family made all of these products.
I bought a baby snow globe from one of the stalls. I found out that the first snow globe was invented in Vienna more than a hundred years ago by Erwin Perry. This snow globe was manufactured by the inventor's grandson.
Here is the story
These are the hand painted beechwood ornaments we bought from the artist at her stall
These were are mugs from the Christmas markets
This is an incense burner we bought from the above stall
The train station was getting their Christmas lights up too
The three photos are from the train as we traveled from Vienna to Salzburg
A set of buildings as we came into the old town section of Salzburg
Our rooms are in a six hundred year old hotel
It is very lovely with tons of antiques, but enough modern conveniences
To make it very comfortable
How long since you saw a phone like the one in our room? (If ever)
I think this make’s coffee, but it just is for decoration for me
Our room number, we are on the third floor only about seven rooms a floor and I think less than 40 in total
After dinner we went for a stroll. This is looking left when you step out our hotel doors
This is the view right. There are Christmas lights strung over the street, but they were not on toning
Almost across the street from us is this place
At the end of the road out one end we found this
This square has been taken over for holiday fun
Ice skating
Visiting
And of course food and drinks
This place was down a side street
Most stores were closed, but we had a nice time just strolling and enjoying a pleasant 45 degree night
This is a small Christmas Market that is being set up near us.
All of the markets seem to be opening here on November 23, which is our last day here, so it will probably be a busy day, trying to hit the two major markets and a couple of nearby smaller ones.
This is our hotel
On our pillows tonight from turndown service.
