Dale and I together put in around 15 miles plus walking the central part on Vienna. He got even more than I did as he went out for a walk while I had a 80 minute wellness massage.
This is the street our hotel sites on. It is in what they call the city center. We are right across the street from a park
This part of town is some of the older parts of the city. Dating back several centuries
The architecture is neoclassical or baroque mostly. This building is the Vienna State Opera building
Still part of the same building
The is the Maria Theresa Monument. It sat in the center of the first Christmas Market we went too
Dale raising his cup of mulled cider in front of a set of statues on our way to the second Christmas Market that was at city hall
This is the Austrian Parliament building
This is the Pallas Athene fountain in from of the above building
City Hall, where in front of it is the largest Christmas Market in Austrian
This is the Burgtheather, which is the state drama theatre in Vienna
Heldenplatz square in front of Neue Burg it is mostly wings which house museums. The whole area is the Imperial Palace of Vienna
Statue of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Love fall colors in the park we walked through
Albertina Museum
One of the streets we walked down. By this time on our first day of walking, we had gotten a bit lost, but google helped us find our way.
Really don’t know what this building is, but like it. They have a hop on hop off bus, but when we looked at it’s route our third day, we realized we had already walked a good piece of it.
Loved these giant nutcrackers outside this hotel
I thought it was clever that the building/store put a giant bow around the corner fronts.Too bad I did not realize that sightseeing bus block part of my shot
Many of the shopping stores are all decorated for the Christmas season
This is the part outside our hotel windows showing off their fall colors
St Stephan Cathedral
Where you could get a nice carriage ride
The city center has several streets that are pedestrian walkways. They radiate from the back of Stephen's church both parallel and perpendicular for several block each way
Each street has different overhead lights
Here are just three of them. You can find almost any major store you could think of except big box stores.
This is St Peter Church that borders the other end of one of the shopping streets
Even the high end stores are all decked out for the holiday.
Hofburg Palace which is the workplace and residence of the president of Austria. The original parts of the palace date back 1279 AD. It has been added to, but still the same building
The city hall in the background of the Wiener Christkindmarkt
Sunrise over the park outside out hotel windows on our second morning
The second full day we headed off in another direction first to find the Christmas market at Belvedere palace. Just a fun building we pasted
The guy on the horse is the Schwarzenberg Monument. Was established in 1867, it was of Prince Philip of Schwarzenberg
Just a dramatic picture of the street we were walking down. Also a view of there above ground city rail
Another major theater building
This is the French embassy in Vienna. I love the gold statuary frescoes on the building
This is the Soviet War Memorial in LandstrBe
Set of building across the street as we headed toward our destination
I find the stone work and detail impressive
Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Embassy of Turkey
One of the two Barque palaces that make up Belvedere palace. This was where the first Christmas market of this day was at.
Behind the kids rides of the market is the old stable of the palace
Here is the part of this palace facing the gardens
The entrances to the gardens are all flanked by sphinxes
A better of the entrance of the plaza r and two on the sphinxes
Walking along the garden
Fountain in the center is the garden
A better view of the fountain
The fruit tree grooves
As we were walking back we saw this on the side of one of the building
This was on the corner near the opposite side of the park from us. The plush penguin was just eye catching
This is the whole building. I could not find out for sure what this building was for sure. It think it may be apartments now
I think this is a restaurant on the corner of the large park, it was all decorated up
No idea what this fountain is besides interesting, the building behind sits on the edge of the park and does dinner with a concert of works from Mozart and Strauss
This fountain is in the middle of the pedestrian shopping area. It is called Pestsaule or the plague column
Another of those pedestrian shopping streets
One of the squares on our walk
Just a typical side street in this part of Vienna
And today blog ends with this statue of the other musician whose name seems to be everywhere around here. Johann Strauss II
