Our Tahiti adventure start late one evening, so I did not take any pictures the eve of our arrival.
I just am going to share a couple of pictures of our first room. This one is taken from our outside patio
The bathroom was fun, but had to figure out a doorstop as if the bathroom door was kept closed the mirror never cleared.
This is the view from our bed out the patio doors. Being on the ground floor meant I had to be sure the curtain and blinds were closed before dressing. I did not want to scare the nativesš¤£
Our first morning there, they had a show during the buffet breakfast.
His necklace are boar tusks
They had very fun dancers and drummers
As the guys got to know the place, they were all into photo ops. The island in the background was Moorea.
They had two infinity pools on property. The other one had a sand bottom and sand around the land side. Though this was my personal favorite. This one was never crowded the whole time we were there. Often We had it to ourselves.
They are had a small set of vanilla orchids growing there and information about Tahitian vanilla.
This is the recliners by the sand pool
There were also plenty of spaces around just to sit outside and relax. Both in the sun and some under pergolas
We did some walking out from our resort. When leaving the resort, if you turned left for the half of mile we walked, it was mainly light industrial. And what seemed to me to be a fairly poor section.
Outside our room by the open hallway bananas were growing. I almost wanted to go and pick one, but they were not ready. I also was not sure what the policy for that would be.
The had a very nice area complete with tennis courts, water sport and rental shop, a spa, and these guys just hanging out in a pond. We walked by them several times a day.
We did not need to worry about over sleeping, these guys like to get up early and crow. The people next door feed them, so we had a large group around our area. Chicken are liked by the people in Tahiti as they eat the little scorpions that like to live in the grass and keeps the grasses free so the people rarely get struck.
I love this pool the best. Several days I would go out, do water aerobics, and swim twice a day. Before breakfast then before dinner.
We had dinner one night in the restaurant out over the water. It had a French chef and was a good meal to do once, but to fancy for ever night for me.
Sunset from our room one of the first nights there.
The Tuesday we were there, we walked right when we came out onto the road from our resort. It lead us to a more residential area and to a small mall.
We had to take Covid test before getting on to the ship for the cruise, this was two days before our cruse date. We were feeling fine, but still were a bit nervous just in case we tested positive. What to do sort of discussion. We both test negative, so no problems.
This place was closed, but we really like their logo as we walked passed. It incorporates the figure of a gondola and also uses native art for the background.
Jan, Bob, Laura, and Max got to the resort the day before the cruise started. It was fun to get together with them. We had a nice relaxing dinner by the pool and visited.
This was the port where we boarded the ship. It was the first time we had been to the main part of the capital. It looked like most cities. High end shops, multi story buildings. I had not realized that the resort was really a bit out of the capital.
This was another view of the Barbour area taken from the deck of the ship the day we sailed.
We were gone from Tahiti for about 12 days while we were on our cruise.
After the cruise we returned to Tahiti, we had a tour of the western part of the island.
I loved this big double hulled outrigger that was near the harbor. These were the kind of ships they used to use to move from island to island.
The first real stop on our tour was at the site of some ruins of a village and temple this tree was days from breaking out in flowers.
We learned that native would kill their enemies, then eat the eyes and some of the organs. They did this because they believed by eating their enemies, they gained their life force. So not my thing.
This statue is out of rock and was like a tiki, which is made of wood, and one of the names for them are moai. They represent the gods and are made to discourage invaders and fright other people.
Our next stop was at a botanical gardens. I got a picture with my two wonderful sister-in-laws.
This sign tells about how the natives would bring there dead there to purify them and get them ready to move on to the next life.
It involved this waterfall, and if I remember right, some eels that went up the falls to a lake that it flowed from.
The plants were so amazingly different. I have not spent a lot of time in a tropical rain forest before.
Our last major stop was at a group of grottos.
It was very pretty and water was “raining” from the ground above us.
This is the sign out by the largest of the grottos
This small one was almost hidden behind all the lush growth. Ferns bigger than people abounded there.

This is one of the fire stations we passed on our way back to the resort.

Here are to examples of some of the houses we passed.

When we got to the resort, our room was not ready. I will admit to being a bit miffed. I had talked to them before we left on the cruise and was under the impression it would be ready. We got back at about 12:30 and we were told it would not be ready until 3pm. So the bellman took our luggage and we went and had lunch with the others. Then we sat in the lounge until three.
When we got taken to our bungalow, I totally forgave them. It was so awesome. It had a bedroom looking out onto the water
With a cool table/window in the living room to the ocean below us. We could hear the sounds of the water lapping against the rocks.
Not only did we have a great two room bungalow over the water, but it had a cool back porch and then a lower swim deck.
Here is the view of it from the walkway.
In the grass area near our rooms, they were having a wedding and reception, so we got serenaded that evening. That was fun as it was also our anniversary.
It was nice to sit out on the deck and watch the sunset
The next day was rainy, but that was fine with us. We slept in, had a late breakfast. I went and had a wonderful massage.
Then we chilled for the afternoon, did some laundry, had a nice dinner. In the evening we had to get pretty much all packed as we needed to leave before 7am.
The next morning after an early breakfast, we took a minute to sadly say goodbye to the beautiful bungalow and the awesome view.
I would do stay in that room again, if the chance arises. It was a great part of our odyssey.
What a great anniversary! The whole trip sounds lovely. Was the pork there as good as what we had in Hawaii? I hope it just keeps getting better and better. Have fun!
